Long before I started photographing weddings professionally, I was working at them.
I’ve been a singer and entertainer for more than 26 years, and I’ve spent a huge part of that time performing at weddings. Standing in front of a room full of strangers doesn’t particularly bother me anymore.
More importantly, it’s taught me how to read people. I know when someone needs a bit of encouragement, when they need a laugh and, probably more importantly, when to leave them alone.
That experience comes with me when I pick up a camera.
I’m comfortable walking into a room full of people I’ve never met. I’ll chat with your family, have a laugh with your mates and get involved enough that people become comfortable having me around.
Then I can get on with photographing them properly.
